Mummy o' Mine

Odd couple Mutt and Jeff are in Egypt in search of Mutt's pharaoh ancestor. When they reach the pyramid, to fool the guards they have to go through some crazy antics by switching mummies and wrapping Jeff up in one.

Animated version of the popular American newspaper comic strip "Mutt and Jeff ", first created by cartoonist Bud Fisher in 1907 and commonly regarded as the first daily comic strip. In 1916 Fisher licensed the comic for animation to pioneers Charles Bowers and Raoul Barré of the Barré Studio. They released more than 300 animated Mutt and Jeff shorts in a period of 11 years.

Early animated comedy, part of a series of six, produced by animators Leo Britton and George Jeffry. Originally advertised as "a sound novelty" with "music-dialogue effects", though surviving copies are missing exacly the latter, so we will never know what this novelty sounded like.

It features a gee-whiz boy hero, called Tom Terrific, who can transform himself into anything he wants thanks to his magic thinking cap. The series ran for 26 episodes.

Felix in Egypt

After surviving a shipwreck, Felix and his bag of tricks wash up on the shore of the Sahara desert. His nemesis, the professor, is still after his bag of tricks, kidnaps him and brings him to Egypt. With a special device he turns Felix into a flat painting on the wall of a pyramid "for a million years", so he can finally own the bag. The bag, however, plays a trick on the professor and follows him around barking like a dog. Felix manages to pump himself from the wall with the help of a bicycle pump from the bag, and manages to retrieve the bag from the professor. In the subsequent chase the professor slides down the side of the pyramid and ends up on the mouth of the sphinx.

While the food is being prepared Olive wanders off and gets trapped inside a pyramid. Popeye has to save her from some mean looking Egyptians, while at the same time keeping an eye on Wimpy so he doesn't eat all the hamburgers.

In Egypt, the mad professor has found a scroll giving a clue to hidden treasure inside a pyramid. Searching for the right pyramid, the professor blows up all the pyramid tops to look inside. The Keeper of the Pyramids calls Felix to help stop him. Using his bag of tricks, Felix is transported to Egypt. His first attempt to stop the professor fails. The professor continues to blow up more pyramids and eventually finds the right one containing the treasure. While he and his companion are celebrating their find, Felix finally manages to capture them. As punishment he orders them to rebuild all the pyramids.

The world's citizens are shocked to learn that the Great Pyramids have disappeared. The Hunter flies his private plane to Egypt to investigate but makes a crash landing in the desert and has to rent a camel from the locals to make it the rest of the way. While conversing with the locals (and making fun of their accents), the Hunter learns of the Sphinx, the "one who knows all". The Hunter decides that this Sphinx fellow would be a good person to question regarding the missing pyramids, so he goes off in search of him. The Hunter is initially angered when the statue refuses to talk; he threatens to arrest it and even gives it a kick, hurting his foot in the process. The kick summons the Fox from a trapdoor at the base of the Sphinx. He is disguised as an Egyptian merchant and is peddling the stolen blocks of the Pyramids as high-quality writing tablets. He encourages the Hunter to pick one up and feel its thickness, but the Hunter stumbles under its weight and drops it on the Fox's head, knocking him senseless and revealing his identity. Officer Flanagan drops in out of nowhere in a helicopter, ready to arrest the Fox. The Hunter blasts on his horn as Flanagan sings his praises to the locals. (source: BCDB)

Thinking it's a bauble, Top Cat offers it to Fancy-Fancy to use in impressing the lady cats. But soon the gang realizes the jewel is genuine, and they sneak back into the museum to return it. They are caught by Dibble, who charges them with stealing the entire collection. While the cats try to straighten the situation out, an real jewel thief appears and is apprehended.

Astro Boy tries to foil a mad scientist's plot to use a robotic Cleopatra (a sexy one, of course) to recreate the ancient kingdom of Egypt. Cleopatra's love, by the way, is another robot called Mark Anthony.

Episode 44 of the Japanese anime series "Astro Boy" (鉄腕アトム or Tetsuwan Atomu) based on the Manga comic "Secret of the Egyptian Conspirators " (1954) by Osamu Tezuka (1928-1989). It is a cartoon adventure series about a youngster in the 21st century. Interestingly, Astro Boy was the first animated TV series to be produced in Japan. After becoming a worldwide hit, Japanese cartoons began to flood the market with the release of other successful series. Followed by episode 45 "The Return of Cleopatra".

Peter and So-So land in Egypt and meet Julius Caesar, who is despondent about losing the favor of Cleopatra. They go to Cleopatra's barge to speak for Caesar. Cleopatra forgives Caesar without Peter's knowledge. Peter tries to use reverse psychology with Cleopatra and speaks insultingly about Caesar. Caesar overhears the insults and attacks Peter. Peter uses his hippo hurricane holler to escape back to his balloon.

There he traps Quest in a catacomb of the ruins and tells them that he they is found, the fact that a foreigner planned the theft of an ancient treasure will unite all his people and he will be the leader. Thunderbird 1 with Scott at the helm is shot down in the Egyptian desert by unidentified fighter planes. Scott is soon found unconcious by two archaeologists, who provide first-aid and radio International Rescue. Virgil, Brains and Tin-Tin arrive in Thunderbird 2 and take him back to their home base. Meanwhile, the archaeologists continue their search for the lost pyramid of king Khamandides. Disaster strikes as their supply trailer breaks loose from their jeep and explodes, leaving the pair stranded without water. Their SOS call is picked up by Alan on Thunderbird 5 and Scott is soon on his way again in Thunderbird 1. Then the archaeologists discover the pyramid of Khamandides. They find a door and go in, but suddenly the door closes behind them. Lying next to it they see the skeleton of the tomb's last guest. However, the pyramid isn't what it appears to be, and the archaeologists find themselves in trouble from the same creatures that shot Scott down!

Live action series of 26 episodes created between 1967 and 1968 based on the original Giant Robo (ジャイアントロボ) manga by Mitsuteru Yokoyama. The titular robot has clearly Egyptian features such as a nemes-like headdress, but the storyline itself contains no references to any ancient Egyptian origin. See also the later (1992) animated adaptation entitled "Giant Robo - The Day Earth Stood Still" or "Giant Robo - The Animation".

The Malevolent Mummy

Clark and Lois accompany a famous scientist on a dig in Egypt, where Lois accidentally awakens an ancient mummy from its tomb. With Lois' life in danger, Clark changes to Superman, rescues Lois and stops the mummy's rampage through Egypt.

Ōgon Bat
黄金バット

Ōgon Bat is a “god of justice and protector of the weak” from Atlantis who was put into suspended animation in an Egyptian sarcophagus to be awakened in the future to fight the forces of evil. His sarcophagus is discovered in modern times by Prof. Yamatone and his daughter Marie in a tomb in Egypt. When Yamatone's family is threatened by the henchman of the evil Dr. Nazō, Marie starts to cry and begs for help. Her tears fall on Ōgon Bat's body and reanimate him. From then on, and in every episode of the series, he appears in the shape of a masked vigilante, The Golden Bat, whenever Marie asks for his help.

Animated cartoon or Anime based on the manga Ōgon Bat (黄金 バット or "Golden Bat") by Takeo Nagamatsu. The series ran for 52 episodes in 1967-68.

The Race against Time

When an archaeologist is murdered during the Sahara Race, Speed tries to fulfill the dying man's last request -- to find his daughter, lost in the Egyptian ruins. Speed finds her, but she's amnesiac and believes she is Cleopatra. To gain her trust, Speed must pass a series of tests, including a gladiator fight and retrieving a statue from the top of a pyramid.

Episode 28 from the American adaptation (Speed Racer) of the Japanese made Anime television series マッハGoGoGo (Mach GoGoGo!). Originally serialized in manga print form by Tatsuo Yoshida, from 1967 to 1968 it ran as a television series in seperate Japanese and American adaptations with a total of 52 episodes. In 1997, a modernized version appeared in Japan with 34 episodes. An English adaptation of this remake in 2002 only saw 11 episodes due to licensing disputes.

Finding an ancient Egyptian tablet with the face of their team on it, the 'Fantastic Four' use a time machine to travel to ancient Egypt and find out what happened. There they encounter the powerful dictator Rama-Tut.

Episode from the animated series "The Fantastic Four". Along with Spiderman this was one two animated series produced by Hanna-Barbera based on Marvel Comics characters. The series lasted only two seasons and was cancelled because of parental concern over TV violence in the late 1960s.

But they are soon captured by thieves who are using him to steal valuable pyramid treasures. Eventually the three heroes help Kharis find Ananka's tomb. She rises from her coffin, embraces him, and kisses him on the lips, at which point their bodies disintegrate. Episode 2 of the 20-episode NBC television series "The New Adventures of Huck Finn" after the famous book "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn" by Marc Twain. Mixed live-action and animation. Created by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera, who also gave us The Flintstones. Interestingly, in this production, Becky, Tom, and Huck are live-action characters, while the bad guys and assorted others are animated.

Bolek and Lolek are in Egypt where they get trapped inside a pyramid. There they struggle with a shady looking character who tries to get to its treasures. They finally manage to wrap him up like a mummy and deliver him to the authorities.

Episode from the Polish animated children television series "Bolek i Lolek" (Bolek i Lolek Wyruszaja w Swiat) about two young brothers and their fun adventures which often involve spending a lot of time outdoors. Most episodes do not have dialogues. The series ran between 1963 and 1986 for a total of 150 episodes.

Pink Sphinx

The Pink Panther is in Egypt on an expedition to uncover a buried tomb containing ancient treasures, and he has only enough money to purchase a tiny camel that can't carry the load of tools that the Pink Panther has and that resists all the panther's attempts to force it to do so.

The Solar Sphinx

TV-series Rocket Robin Hood

  

An attack by Robin, Will and Little John on what looks like a tax collecting ship owned by Prince John has an unexpected result. The trio are captured and transported to the planet Nilor, which bears a resemblance to ancient Egypt in terms of its structures. The ruler, Emperor Tut, has a proposal for the Robin and his friends with unpleasant consequences promised if they turn him down.

Episode 41 of the animated adventure sci-fi series "Rocket Robin Hood", which is about Robin Hood of Sherwood Asteroid, a space age version of the medieval outlaw who continues his ancestor's crusade against heavy taxation, despotism, and the general forces of evil. The series, which ran for 147 episodes from 1966 until 1969, uses quite a number of elements derived from the ancient classical world. "The Solar sphinx" is the only episode that plays in an Egyptian setting. An earlier episode entitled "The Dark Galaxy" (#37) features a planet with East Indian and Egyptian architecture and some mummy-robots in the service of the forces of evil, but has nothing else of Egyptological interest and was therefore omitted from this list. And contrary to what the title suggests, the episode entitled "Cleopatra Meets Little John" (#16) is about a female dinosaur with that name. It was therefore also omitted.

Redrawn version of "Mummy o' Mine" from 1926. The original Mutt and Jeff animated series ran from 1916 until 1927 and was based on a long-running and widely popular American newspaper comic strip created by cartoonist Bud Fisher in 1907 about 'two mismatched tinhorns'. In 1973, eleven of the original 300 were redrawn colorized for a feature film, that was eventually only released in the 16mm small theater circuit.

The series "Scooby's Laff-A-Lympics", which was produced between 1977 and 1979, incorporates nearly every major Hanna-Barbera animation character from the 1950’s through the 1970’s. In this series the characters are separated into three teams that compete against each other in races and obstacles. The nineth episode is entitled "Egypt" contains two competitions, one being "touch the tip of the pyramid" and the other a "camel race" in the desert. The events around the pyramid involve the Yogi Bear and Really Rotten teams using several tricks such as a secret hoist in a wall and a trap door. Eventually they leave the pyramid with a sawn-off tip.

The SuperFriends are shocked when and their arch-enemy alien supervillain Sinestro saves two Paris subway trains from a collision. Later, his ally Toyman stops a couple of bank robbers, and Gorilla Grodd and Bizarro prevent an airship disaster. The villainous group claims they are tired of battling the SuperFriends and losing each time. But they show their true colors when they do not come to the aide of the dying planet Santar, so it is too late for SuperFriends to save it. While on Santar, the SuperFriends get a message which leads them to a trap in an Egyptian tomb and finally to the year 3984, where the Legion of Doom has now conquered a domed city.

Episode 11 of season 1 of the animated series "Challenge of the SuperFriends" about a team of superheroes based on the 'Justice League' and associated comic book characters published by DC Comics. One of the characters is Hawkman, a reincarnation of ancient Egyptian 'prince Khufu' and an archeologist by trade who uses his archeological finds to combat evil. He has the power of flight and uses Nth metal weapons. The series ran for only one season in 1978. A later incarnation of this concept is found in the "Justice League Unlimited" series (see the 2006 episodes "Shadow of the Hawk" and "Ancient History" elsewhere in this list).

Scooby, Scrappy and Shaggy are driving through the Egyptian Desert. They are so hot, they see a mirage of a refreshment stand. After getting buried in a sand storm, they soon discover a pyramid. Shaggy is worried because that's "a real dead place", where the ancient pharaohs were buried, but Scrappy runs in ahead. Inside, Scooby and Shaggy are horrified by a living pharaoh's head that turns out to be Scrappy wearing the mask. They do however, encounter a moving mummy who comes after them. Scrappy wants to attack, but Scooby grabs him. They hide in ancient paintings, and then try to escape on a boat in an indoor lake, but what looks like stepping stones are actually hungry crocodiles. Shaggy and Scooby narrowly escape their jaws, which Scrappy is able to simply snap shut. The mummy appears again, and Scrappy simply unwinds him ("See, I knew he was nothing but hot air"). But upon leaving the pyramid, the mummy's spirit follows them outside, leaving footprints in the sand. The gang drives off into the desert. (source: www.bcdb.com)

One of them is an ancient queen called Maya, who lies in a tomb under the ancient city that she once ruled. She and the other two women - one of whom is a hermit who wields a staff that gives her super-strength, and the other a model from 1980s Earth - combine their powers in order to stop the evil wizard, sending him back in time and destroying the Gem of Power, from which he derives his magic. Maya is depicted in the cartoon as a duplicate of Cleopatra, even wearing the famed pharaoh's headdress and ancient Egyptian garb; she is an elementalist, a person who can transform herself into any one of the four elements.

Episode 18 from the animated television cartoon series "Thundarr the Barbarian", loosely inspired by R.E. Howard's Conan the Barbarian. In a kind of post-apocalyptic world, Thundarr, a muscular warrior, and his companions Princess Ariel and Ookla the Mok travel the world on horseback and battled evil wizards who combine magical spells with technologies from the pre-catastrophe world. The only Egyptian element in this series is limited to the figure of queen Maya depicted as Cleopatra.

The surprise appearance of a mummified Mr. Potato Head and the quick thinking of Spud reveals that Anubis is actually the museum curator. In this particular episode Clementine meets pharaoh Akhenaten who is about to be overpowered by his enemies, the priests of Amun. She offers to help him. When Clementine is back in her present time after this adventure, it appears that Tutankhamun's tomb has been found. Clementine mentions jokingly that someone has finally found her husband's tomb. Everyone laughs upon hearing this.

ThunderCats

"ThunderCats" is about a long-running battle between good, the ThunderCats, and evil, the Mutants and their leader Mumm-Ra. The ThunderCats are humanoids with distinct feline appearances, while the Mutants are a rag-tag group of uglies, all of them a form of anthropomorphs. Throughout most of the series the action is set on the planet called "Third Earth", the third age of Earth. Both visual and verbal references to ancient Egyptian culture during the series seem to indicate that the planet is a future version of our Earth. The ThunderCats dwell in a substantial fortress built in the shape of a cat, the Cat's Lair, somewhat similar in design to the Chefren Sphinx at Giza. In Egypt professor Sharp and his team discover a solid gold casket bearing a seal in the shape of a scarab. They find a papyrus inside. When presenting the 'ancient Scarab scroll' to the Cairo museum, to the horror of all present one of the sfinx statues comes to life and breaks apart, revealing the mad scientist Dr. Scarab who immediately steals the scroll. Professor Sharp calls in the help from the 'Bionic Six' to salvage the situation. The papyrus, it appears, contains a map which reveals the secret location of the 'Crown of the Scarab King', which promises unknown powers. On the spot marked 'X' on the map Dr. Scarab discovers a new pyramid rising from below the sands. Inside he finds a labyrinth and the sarcophagus of the Scarab King, with the crown on top. When Dr. Scarab tries it on, the scenes on the walls come to life warning him of the approaching Bionic Six. Scarab uses the power of the crown to scare them off by making the labyrinth statues come to life and chase them. Believing himself now to be invincible he commands to conquer all. This causes Egyptian statues from museums all over the world to come to life and cause havoc. Bionic Six manage to trap the statues from the labyrinth in quicksand and confront Dr. Scarab. Feeling cornered, he calls for the Scarab King to awaken and serve his master. The mummy, however, turns against him, takes back the crown and then goes back to sleep again. This makes the pyramid sink back into the sands. Dr Scarab and Bionix Six just barely manage to escape.

Anime based on the popular Manga series by Hirohiko Araki (荒木 飛呂彦), published in the magazine "Weekly Shōnen Jump" between 1987 and 2004. The original Japanese version of this Anime consists of six episodes that were released in 1993 and onother seven (actually intended as an explaining prequel series) in 2001. An English version with the total thirteen episodes was released on DVD between 2003 and 2005, with the episodes ordered by its fictional chronology.

Billy the Cat tells a story about a little bad boy who met a wizard who turned him into a cat, so the boy would feel what it is like to be the victim for once. In this episode his cat-mentor Sir Hubert makes fun of an ancient legend known to all cats: back in ancient Egypt a cat named Hubisis once rebelled against the mighty queen Catapatra, who ruled with the help of a mighty cat-eye amulet. Hubisis managed to escape, but as a revenge Catapatra put a curse on all his descendents. Sir Hubert doesn't believe in this fairytale, but he soon discovers that he himself is a descendent of Hubsis, as he is kidnapped by the powerful cat Eartha, follower of queen Catapatra. To punish him Catapatra want to make him a living mummy. Of course Billy and Queenie come to the rescue. By stealing the amulet, thus robbing Catapatra of her powers, they manage to free Sir Hubert.

In the end Aladdin and Genie have to battle Morgana in her own temple, where Genie hides himself as a mummy inside an Egyptian sarcophagus.

The younger generation don't seem to understand the importance of celebrating Passover, "a holiday without presents", but when grandpa tells them the epic story of Moses leading the Hebrews away from the pharaoh and slavery (with character Tommy as Moses and Angelica as the pharaoh), everyone finds something to believe in.

Last episode of season three of the animated television series "Rugrats", which ran for a total of 172 episodes between 1991 and 2004. The series centers around four babies and their day-to-day lives, usually involving common life experiences that become adventures in the babies' imaginations. This particular episode focuses on topics of religion, particularly towards Jewish beliefs and practices. Throughout the episode, the different religious practices of each of the characters is revealed. The episode received overwhelmingly positive reviews from television critics at the time and is one of the most popular episodes of Rugrats in its broadcasting history.

Together with their friend and reporter Melissa Sone, who happens to be in Cairo as well to write an article about the same pyramid, they set out to seek the treasure.

In second season episode 18, entitled "The Curse of the Mummy's Mommy", Mums' mommy, who is also a mummy, comes to town.

He is thrown into prison where he remains for a number of years until one day pharaoh needs him to interpret a dream that has been torturing him lately. Joseph interprets pharaoh's dreams which represent a famine in Egypt, and pharaoh is so impressed that he makes Joseph the second most powerful man in the land in order to prepare the country for the famine. Joseph meets Asenath again and they marry. It is during this time when he is reunited with his family who come to Egypt for food.

Scooby-Doo is a popular and long-running animated series produced for television by Hanna-Barbera Productions, now Cartoon Network Studios. "Scooby-Doo! in Where's My Mummy?" was, however, not produced for television but is a so-called direct-to-video movie. These movies feature the original five-character cast from the early "Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!" days, not including the later Scrappy-Doo character.
